Gioiosa Jonica, in the heart of Locride, an area of the metropolitan city of Reggio Calabria on the Ionic side of Calabria, is a town rich in history, art and traditions thanks to its palaces and ancient architecture. Of notable value are Castello dei Pellicano, Palazzo Amaduri, home to the Historical Archives, Ufficio Europa della Locride, the town library and Pinacoteca Amaduri. Moreover, Naniglio Archaeological Park is an important site whose main attraction is a hypogeum building from the Roman era, dating back between the 2nd and 3rd centuries AD, and Church of St John the Baptist, in front of which there is a large, panoramic viewpoint. At the end of the visit, it is possible to enjoy the renowned paste gioiosane, local pastry delicacies.
