DAY 1: REGGIO CALABRIA
Arrival in Reggio Calabria, the city of Morgan le Fay. Stroll along the seafront, described by Italian poet D’Annunzio as “the most beautiful kilometre in Italy”, amidst Art Nouveau buildings and the remains of ancient “Reghion”, immersed in a tropical botanical garden overlooking the blue sea of the Straits of Messina. Other fundamental stops are the Cathedral, dedicated to Maria Santissima Assunta, Ottimati Byzantine Church and the Aragonese Castle. In the heart of the city is the National Archaeological Museum of Magna Graecia, one of the most prestigious archaeological museums in Italy, which houses the Bronze Statues of Riace, the Head of the Philosopher and many of the most important finds from Magna Graecia era. Overnight stay in a hotel.
DAY 2: LOCRI – CASIGNANA
Breakfast at the hotel. Departure for Locri, founded by the Greeks in the 7th century BC, and remembered as the home of Zaleucus, Nossis and Timaeus. Visit to the archaeological area of Centocamere, in the ancient locality of Locri Epizephiri, and the adjoining museum. Transfer to the archaeological site of Casignana. Here, the remains of a Roman villa dating back to the 1st century AD were found in 1963. Inside the villa there was a large private thermal complex, which included frigidarium, tepidarium and caldarium, the rooms are decorated with mosaics of various motifs and colours. Typical dinner in a restaurant. Overnight stay in a hotel.
DAY 3: REGGIO CALABRIA
Breakfast at the hotel, luggage pick-up and depart for the return journey.
