Day 1 – Arrival in Reggio Calabria
Arrival in Reggio Calabria, the ancient Greek colony of Rhegion, the tip of the Italic boot, a city that has a lot to offer such as the seafront and splendid view of the Strait of Messina. You will be immediately immersed in the magnificence of ancient archaeology by visiting the National Archaeological Museum, home to the Riace Bronzes, considered among the most significant examples of classical Greek art.
Day 2 – Scilla & Tracciolino Trail
This morning you find yourself in the picturesque village of Scilla, included in the circuit of the Most Beautiful Villages in Italy (I Borghi più belli d’ Italia), perched on the slopes of a rocky promontory. The picturesque harbour, which is used for the few spatare, special swordfish fishing boats, is dominated by Ruffo di Calabria castle. Scilla is still famous for its ancient fishing district, Chianalea, along with its canals and the fishermen’s dwellings slope down towards the sea. In this evocative setting, you will have a typical lunch among the distinctive alleys. In the afternoon, you will dive into a naturalistic scenario of immense beauty, Sentiero del Tracciolino, one of the most evocative panoramic routes in Calabria, overlooking Costa Viola. The trail, suspended between the Tyrrhenian Sea and Aspromonte National Park, winds its way through the intense colours and scents of the Mediterranean maquis, offering a spectacular panorama from which you can admire romantic coves and beaches set among the rocks.
Day 3 – House of Culture in Palmi and Museum of Ceramics in Seminara
The trip ends with a visit to Casa della Cultura “Leonida Repaci” in Palmi, a modern functional complex housing several museum sections including one of the main ethnographic museums in Southern Italy.
Before heading back, a walk through the streets of Seminara, known for its artistic ceramics whose origin is linked to the culture of ancient Greece theatrical masks. Visit to the Ceramics Museum and a craft workshop.
